ABOUT FAXON GREEN

Floral Arrangement

Faxon inherited her first garden at age seven. Gardens and gardening along with an art studio became essential spaces in and around her home. Whether San Francisco, New York's upper west side, Newburyport, or Cambridge Massachusetts, there has been a place to plant, grow, paint and sculpt.

As a voice/drama major in college, she performed in recitals and amateur productions.
She studied at the Julliard School of Music in Aspen, Colorado. Her accompanist was James Levine, the current maestro of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

In addition to the arts, Faxon's education and work included advanced degrees in adult developmental psychology from Harvard University. She created The FeelingMind Institute, a consultancy to serve corporate executives and their teams. The need for greater understanding of emotional energy and how to harness it in the work place was central to her work with them. Faxon used plants and poetry as she assisted leaders to expand and hone their skills in communication, collaboration and profit making.

Following her studies in 2003 with Anthony Ward passionflora.com, Faxon created her professional floral design studio. Inspired by her time in the Costa Rican rain forest, she began sculpting with living material. This led to her distinctive style of creating foundational infrastructures for bouquets that are ecologically sound and visually interesting.

In 2004, she offered to create foot altars for His Holiness, The Dalai Lama, during his presentations
in Boston. She was hired as the floral designer for bouquets in his suite at The Charles Hotel in Cambridge, Kresge Auditorium at MIT and the [then] Fleet Center stage in Boston.

Today, Faxon combines her floral design, sculpting and painting in her work at The Boston Museum of Fine Arts. In addition, she teaches at the Boston Architectural College, "Living Space -Line, Color,Texture, Fragrance". She convenes "Conversations with Growing Things" for people interested in learning more about the art and science of designing exclusively with living material.
